It has now been decided by the Rotary Club of Sorell that as of next year the Fruit Wine show and Festival will move closer to town. The January 2004 Festival will be held on THE BOARDWALK at Bellerive. The show itself will be held close by at a yet to be decided venue. The festival will include a larger variety of stalls and musical entertainment and hopefully a wider variety of wines to be tasted! The move has been made as the Richmond site had some disadvantages regarding the future expansion envisaged for the festival. One of our major sponsors is the Clarence City Council (not forgetting Tasmanian Home Brewing Supplies!) The BBQ on the 1 June was successful with about 20-25 people attending in glorious sunshine. A pleasant afternoon ...... enjoying the results of the winemaker’s labour. Next BBQ planned for the spring
Tasmanian Fruit Wine Show 2003 Results The Fruit Wine Show was conducted on the 10 January 2003. As a result of judging four gold, 21 silver and 46 bronze medals were awarded. This is a huge increase in awards from the previous year and represented about 70% of the wines shown. Added to this two of the gold medals were awarded to amateurs for the first time in the history of the event- Anna Page for her Cumquat Brandy and Peter Green for his Leatherwood Mead. Most of the entrants came from Southern Tasmania but there was representation from the north of the state and from the big island. There were 29 entrants including a large number of people who hadn't entered wine shows before. A breakdown of results: Dry Berry Fruit Wine: 17 entries 2silver and 7 bronze Sweet Berry Fruit Wine: 11 entries 5 silver and 5 bronzes Dry Meads: 7 entries 1 silver and 6 bronzes Sweet Meads 2 entries 2 Liqueurs: 19 entries: 2 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronzes There were quite a few unusual wines exhibited.
